Promoting young talent is more important than ever: Lm-therm supports TfK

Fachkräftemangel

According to Statista, there will be a shortage of around 288,000 MINT specialists in Germany by 2031. Many companies are already complaining about a lack of skilled workers. One large area with a shortage of skilled workers is the field of STEM subjects and professions: Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Technology. The association “Technik für Kinder” (Technology for Children) has set itself the goal of getting children interested in technology through play and thus counteracting the shortage of skilled workers. Lm-therm has been supporting the Deggendorf-based association since July 2023.

“The promotion of young talent has always played an important role…”

“The promotion of young talent has always played an important role at Lm-therm. As a regional, family-oriented company, we support numerous associations with different focuses as well as initiatives such as Girl’s Day,” said Franz Achter, CEO of Lm-therm Elektrotechnik AG. Supporting the “Technik für Kinder” association is particularly important to us, because this is the only way to secure Germany’s economic future,” Franz Achter continued.
The association “Technik für Kinder” (Technology for Children) carries out projects in which children can get to grips with technical topics and, above all, get involved themselves. To this end, the association visits schools several times a year with trainees from companies such as BMW, Lindner, etc., and builds flashlights, table fans, etc. together with the students. In this way, the children’s curiosity about technology is aroused and, in the best case, their desire to work in a technical profession is stimulated.

Enthusiasm for technology from an early age

Scientific studies have shown that for 80% of children, the foundation for choosing a technical career is laid in childhood. While it is possible to learn to play an instrument in music school, there is still no established support for children who are interested in technology. Too little is being done to promote the next generation in the STEM field. For Lm-therm, it is therefore a matter of course to support such projects for the promotion of young talent in the MINT sector, which will secure Germany’s future as a business location.
